REDUCING ALUMINUM EXPOSURE

The dramatic increase in aluminum use in consumer and industrial products means that everyone is exposed to more aluminum than at any other point in human history. It is estimated that by 2050, the amount of aluminum to which humans are exposed will have increased by 100 percent since 1950.9 Yet, despite the clear dangers aluminum poses to the environment, wildlife and humanity, the Aluminum Age shows no signs of slowing down.

The Children’s Medical Safety Research Institute recommends ten actions to protect yourself against a toxin that is “rapidly contaminating the globe from the inside out”

  1. DRINK SILICON-RICH MINERAL WATERS These have been shown to facilitate the removal of aluminum from the body. Fiji and Volvic brand bottled waters are rich sources of silicon.

  2. AVOID OR SPACE OUT INJECTIONS OF VACCINES THAT CONTAIN ALUMINUM. Aluminum adjuvants in vaccines can cross the blood-brain barrier, and research has confirmed links to autoimmune diseases in susceptible individuals.

  3. DO NOT USE ALUMINUM PANS FOR COOKING. Good alternatives include glass dishes and covers for baking, stoneware for cookie sheets and cast iron for stove-top cooking.

  4. AVOID ALUMINUM FOIL FOR COOKING. Aluminum has been shown to leach from foil, particularly when cooking highly acidic foods.

  5. ONLY USE ALUMINUM-FREE NATURAL DEODORANTS. Avoid aluminum compounds like aluminum chloride, which alters sweat-producing cells, and aluminum zirconium octachlorohydrex, which obstructs pores in the skin to prevent sweat from leaving the body.

  6. DO NOT CONSUME DRINKS THAT CONTAIN DYES (E.G., COLORED SPORTS DRINKS). Dyes contain aluminum compounds called “color lakes,” which contain metal salts such as aluminum.

  7. AVOID SKIN CARE PRODUCTS WITH EMOLLIENTS CONTAINING MAGNESIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE; ALUMINUM TRISTEARATE; OR ALUMINUM STEARATE. Aluminum tristearate is a thickening agent that prevents liquid makeup from separating or becoming runny; aluminum stearate is a colorant and emulsifier in cosmetics.

  8. AVOID STORE-BOUGHT INFANT FORMULAS, ALL OF WHICH CONTAIN ALUMINUM. See the Weston A. Price Foundation homemade, aluminum-free recipe for a much healthier and safer formula.25

  9. AVOID ANTACIDS THAT CONTAIN ALUMINUM COMPOUNDS. To reduce heartburn, try replacing chalky aluminum-containing antacid tablets with apple cider vinegar diluted in water.

  10. LOOK FOR ALUMINUM-FREE ALTERNATIVES FOR ALL PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS. Make sure that hair care products, toothpastes, body soaps, sunscreens, nail polishes and buffered aspirins are aluminum-free.

The world’s six longevity “Blue Zones*” have natural water supplies that contain high levels of dissolved silicon. These supply drinking water and are used for irrigation. Grains, fruit, and vegetables absorb it. Beer and wine produced in these areas have high silicon content as well. People there eat the “Mediterranean diet.” The six areas are:

  • Okinawa, Japan
  • Villagrande, Sardinia
  • Ikaria, Greece
  • Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica
  • Loma Linda, California
  • Western Hechi, China

Lifestyle choices to avoid Aluminum

  • Trash your aluminum cookware. It dissolves the toxin into your food. Substitute glass, stainless, cast iron, or enamel-coated pots instead. Test them by trying to scratch them with a key. If it makes a mark, they are aluminum.
  • Never drink from aluminum beverage cans, even though they are claimed to be enamel-coated. Use glass instead. And those little juice boxes are lined with aluminum-based film.
  • Testing canned goods with a magnet will tell you if they are aluminum, which isn’t magnetic.
  • Colored food, candies, and vitamins are aluminum sources. For medications, if the ingredient list says “Aluminum lake” or “FD&C,” it is no good.
  • Use no antacids except calcium carbonate. Others are aluminum-based. Yoho comment: avoid any medications, including over-the-counter ones, that you cannot live without.
  • Avoid baking powder! This has contained alum since 1900, and even the brands claiming to be aluminum-free are contaminated. It is used to make pickles, pancakes, muffins, and waffles. Instead, use old fashioned cream of tarter baking powder, which has no aluminum. Alternatively, you can make baking powder using Crouse’s recipe in his book or on the internet.
  • Trash all aluminum antiperspirants. These have been related to Alzheimer’s, and many have deceptive labeling. The ones that contain no aluminum are Arm and Hammer Essentials, Tom’s of Maine, and Schmidt’s. A natural alternative is to wet a small amount of aluminum-free baking soda in your palm and use that.
  • Filter your drinking water for aluminum. Reverse osmosis systems such as Culligan work the best. Most filters also remove silica, but you can replace that; see the next section.
  • Avoid processed foods. These contain far more aluminum on average than unprocessed foods. Mothers must make their own infant formula to avoid poisoning their babies with the aluminum in commercial baby food.
  • Quit smoking. Two packs a day doubles the risk of AD. Cigarettes and marijuana have lots of aluminum, and when you smoke, you put it straight into your brain.
  • Avoid having more than one or two alcoholic drinks a day.
  • Eat the right foods. Whole grains, vegetables, beer (averages 65 ppm), and bananas are sources of silica.
  • Sleep properly
  • Oatmeal porridge does contain some silicon.

Crouse’s other recommended treatments and prevention for aluminum toxicity include:

  • Vitamin D. Cod liver oil is a great source.
  • Taurine, vitamin K2, CoQ, vitamin B12, and alpha-linolenic acid. Animal foods are the best sources.
  • Exercise and perspire. Saunas help, too.

1 Gallon Sillicade Recipe

  1. Add 1 level dash & 2 level smidgens of sodium silicate to a one-cup Pyrex container (3/16 tsp)

  2. Add 1/8 cup of tap water to the one-cup Pyrex measuring container

  3. Heat the contents of the Pyrex measuring cup to boiling and boil for at least 30 seconds

  4. Dilute immediately with a small amount of unheated tap water

  5. Pour all the contents of the Pyrex measuring cup into a 1 gallon container

  6. Fill the 1 gallon container with unheated tap water to the 1 gallon mark on the container

  7. Add 1 level dash of sodium bisulfate to the one gallon container (1/8 tsp)

  8. Stir the mixture thoroughly and then filter the mixture through a Brita filter pitcher

  9. After filtering, add 2 level smidgens of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to the mixture (1/16 tsp) optional - add 1 dash of magnesium chloride hexahydrate

  10. Stir Silicade to dissolve the baking soda

  11. Enjoy the health benefits of drinking Silicade!

4 Gallons

  1. Tap Water (4 gallons)
  2. Sodium Silicate (3/4 teaspoon) add to 1 cup water and boil for 30 sec
  3. Sodium Bisulfate (1/2 teaspoon)
  4. Baking Soda (1/4 teaspoon) after filtering

2 Gallons top

I already filter the tap water, so skipping the refiltering step.

  1. Add 3 Dashes of Sodium Silicate to 1/4 Cup water
  2. boil for 30 sec
  3. Fill gallon water jug half way and add 2 Dashes of Sodium Bisulfate, stir, fill to 1 gallon mark with water
  4. Pour into storage container (2.5 gallon jug for refrigerator)
  5. Fill another gallon of “tap” water to storage container
  6. Add 1 Dash of Baking Soda to storage container
  7. Add 2 Dashes of magnesium chloride hexahydrate to storage container (reducing to 1 Dash for taste)
  8. Stir/Shake

SMIDGEN - A smidgen holds 1/2 pinch or 1/32 teaspoon. 2 smidgens = 1 pinch

PINCH - A pinch holds 1/2 dash or 1/16 teaspoon. 2 pinches = 1 dash A pinch has historically been defined as “an amount that can be taken between the thumb and forefinger” but without any definite equivalent in other units of measurement.

DASH - A dash holds 1/8 teaspoon. 8 dashes = 1 teaspoon A dash was originally considered a liquid measure, a small but indefinite amount. More recently the term has been used as both a liquid and dry measurement.

NOTE: There is some contention as to just how much a pinch or dash is. Some contend that they are both equal to 1/16 teaspoon, while others claim a pinch equals 1/16 teaspoon, but a dash equals 1/8 teaspoon.
